PACKING TIPS

You made your reservation. Now, it’s time to get ready for the big day. When you move with us, you can choose from a full range of moving packages from our comprehensive Platinum Packing service, to our incredibly affordable Bronze packing service for those who prefer a higher level of personal involvement. If you choose this do-it-yourself option, we recommend using these tips to make the process easier.
  • As soon as you know you are moving, start packing!
  • Pack items you do not use often. For example, off-season clothing, books, CDs, etc.
  • Seal your boxes with packing tape. Use as much as necessary to make sure your boxes are secure on all sides.
  • Be generous with the amount of paper you place in each box top and bottom to confirm it is well-cushioned.
  • Label the box with its contents and destination (i.e., dishes/ kitchen).
  • Do not pack more than 50lbs per box. Every box has a maximum weight capacity. Respecting the weight capacity helps the movers who lift and carry the boxes to and from the truck.

Packing the Kitchen/Dining Room Since this is the busiest room in the house, it is usually the last one to be packed up. To stay organized, start by packing kitchen and dining room items you rarely use – special china, the Thanksgiving platter, etc. – early, and you’ll cut down on the size of the job later. Gather all your dish towels and potholders to use them for extra padding.
Flat plates/China plates
Place a generous amount of crumpled paper at the bottom of the box for cushioning. Wrap each plate separately with at least two sheets of white paper and then wrap up to three plates in a bundle. Place the bundle on its edge only, do not lay flat as the plate’s edge is the strongest part of the plate. Make sure to place crumpled paper between bundles until you fill up the first level (make sure not to leave unfilled spaces). Again, place a generous amount of crumpled paper between layers. For extra safety, cut a piece of cardboard to fit the size of the box and use it to separate between the layers. Use a final layer of crumbled paper and then seal the box with a generous amount of tape and mark it as Fragile – Kitchen/Dining Room – This Side Up.
Crystal/Glasses And Cups
Use the above directions for the preparation of the box. Wrap each cup or glass separately with at least two sheets of white paper. When wrapping cups with handles, apply an additional sheet of white paper for extra protection. Place cups and glasses into the box face up as if you were placing them on a table. Place a generous amount of crumpled paper between; make sure not to leave unfilled spaces between layers. Build your second layer the same way, and keep in mind that placing cardboard in between layers is the safest way to protect fragile items like these. When your layers are complete, use a final layer of crumbled paper and then seal the box with a generous amount of tape and mark it as Fragile – Kitchen/Dining Room – This Side Up.
